2000 Mission Trip Report

The 2000 Marion Medical Mission Team delivered and distributed 42 trunks of medical supplies to the Embangweni  Hospital and tools for the shallow wells program, worked in schools, clinics, churches, and installed 312 shallow wells.

There were three teams this year. The first team, Jerry W. Miller, Baxter Hocutt Miller III and Steve Forrest, was there from August 20th thru Sept 10th. The second team, Tom & Jocelyn Logan, Evelyn Davis, Joyce Heath, Jim & Carol Nussbaumer, Nicole Tate and Daron Wong, was there from Oct 1st thru Oct 22nd.  the Third team, Tom & Jocelyn Logan,  Jerry Roush, George Lewis, Gary Lewis, Evelyn Davis, Rev. Dick McFarlin and Mary Lou Wood, was there from Oct 22nd thru Nov 12th.

Most of the work went fine, but we were all shocked to hear of a terrible traffic accident on October 24th that put Tom Logan in the hospital with multiple fractures and internal injuries. In addition, there were 4 Malawians riding in the back of the pickup, and most of them also had serious injuries.  Everyone involved with the program was shocked and saddened by the terrible news. The only answer in a time like this is to turn to prayer.

The best understanding of the impact of the trip can be found in first hand accounts from some of the team members.

Daron Wong tells how he got into the trip and his reactions.

Joyce Heath describes her thoughts on one specific day from her journal kept during the trip.

Carol Nussbaumer reflects on her second trip to Embangweni.

Rev. Richard McFarlin remembers his trip to Embangweni.
