Working Hand-In-Hand with God's People

“So that there should be no division in the body, but that its parts should have equal concern for each other. If one part  suffers, every part suffers with it; if one part is honored, every part rejoices with it.”
1 Corinthians 12:25-26

Biography:

Rev. Elisha is the oldest child of six. He is married to Christina Martin Danda and they have three daughters. Miriam, born on September 8, 1999, is in class 2 and Diana, born on May 20, 2002, is in Nursery School. Dorcus was born on November 6, 2005. They also take care of Erick Hosiana Mwasakifwa, 15 years old and an orphan, and Christina’s younger sister Leah Danda, 22 years old and works as a tailor.

The family supplement s their income with pigs and chickens, a necessity to pay school fees for Erick and university fees for another sister, Ikupa. “Any good education in Tanzania is expensive, but I am willing to invest more in education for the good future of my relatives and my own kids.”

Rev. Elisha attended Mbafwa Primary School and Sanganilo Primary School, between 1978 and 1986 and Rungwe Government Secondary School between 1987 and 1990, completing his Ordinary level studies. He attended Mwakaleli High School, Advanced Level, from 1991 to 1993, then Makumira University for a degree in theology in 1998. On July 11, 1999 he was ordained as a minister and was appointed Chaplain at Manow Lutheran Junior Seminary. In January of 2000, he became Director of Mission Evangelism and Youth Directorate of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Tanzania, Konde Diocese, serving for 5 years. On October 1st, 2004 he received a new call to join Marion Medical Mission as a Field Officer.

Statement of Faith:

I was born in a Lutheran Christian family. My grandfather was chosen by the first German Missionaries to be one of the local Evangelists and sent to do mission work using local languages. I participated in Sunday school and Church youth groups. In school I was often elected as leader of Christian fellowship groups; a wonderful moment for me! I love singing Christian songs. I love serving others and this spirit continues to work in me.”

Why I work with MMM:

It is an ecumenical Christian non-profit organization that responds to Christ’s call to serve people. This act of serving communities through projects that directly go to the poor and needy ones has inspired me to join hands with the MMM team as one of its front-line fighters.

It is with great joy that I serve communities with MMM, which responds to Christ’s call to serve people. I am inspired to work with all my efforts to help people have a better life and love all who participate in the mission. Glory be to God!”

Community Involvement & Personal Achievements as a Field Officer:

Since 2004 up to the present: Rev. Elisha has mobilized communities in Ileje and Mbozi Districts in Tanzania, who contribute their labor power e.g. digging the well, bringing local building material such as bricks, sand, gravel, and paying fee for the sustainability of the program. 376 wells have been built since the program started in Tanzania in 2002. Rev. Mwasakifwa was the first Tanzanian Field Officer to work with MMM.

What is the impact of the Shallow Well Program?

The Shallow Well Program has helped “uplift the lives of rural masses economically and health wise.”

Since the wells are built at close vicinity to the villages, women and children have a shorter distance to walk to draw water.
The spread of water born diseases has been reduced and, as a result, the number of deaths caused by these diseases has gone down.

All in all, this program has been a blessing to the people of the rural setting who do not have access to safe water.

What is the Future of the Shallow Well Program and why is your support so important?

It is true that the all donors in USA are not driven to give because they physically have seen the recipients in Africa, “no” but it is because they were told by someone who addressed the problem about the water situation in Africa, South of the Sahara. Thus Christ uses them to help others through offering money for shallow wells construction.

Our focus and goal is to serve as many people as possible, but this should go hand in hand with sustainability issues for the program to be successful.

Future needs include:
Yearly courses for village team members to ensure they efficiently carry out their activities, such as repairing and maintaining the wells in their area..
Yearly surveys to verify the functionality of the wells.
Refresher courses for FOs in community development.
Continue raising funds for new wells and capacity building.

How you can help:

Adopt a Field Officer: $10,000/year (this includes salary, fuel, food & lodging while working in the rural areas)
Pray for the Field Officers and the Shallow Well Program.
Tell others about MMM and its programs.

Rev. Mwasakifwa is still available for 'adoption'.
