This was another challenging year for us. The biggest problem was the on-going shortage of diesel fuel in Malawi. As a result of the shortage, we had to be creative in finding and storing diesel fuel. This caused some problems with contaminated fuel, sometimes disabling our trucks. It also significantly increased some of our costs, such as for cement, due to transportation problems. We bought 1 new Landcruiser pickup which gave us a total of 16 pickups plus the 13 passenger van that can also be used to install pumps. The vehicles were all in good condition and we needed them all to keep our operation moving.

This was the first year we installed all of the wells using newly redesigned pump parts and the quality was great and the ease of use of the new parts was evident to all. The new parts, the foot valve and plunger, were designed by our own Jerry Roush and were manufactured in our workshop at Embangweni.

The best understanding of the impact of the trip can be found in first hand accounts from some of the team members.
