About Our Name!
We are called Marion Medical Mission but this can sometimes cause confusion for people.
The MARION is simply the name of the town (Marion, Illinois, USA) where the founders live and where the first volunteers came from. We now include volunteers from all across the USA and even from Canada.
Initially our focus was on MEDICAL needs and we primarily took medical volunteers and supplies to hospitals in Africa. Since 1990, that primary focus has changed. Now instead of focusing on curative MEDICAL, we focus more on preventative MEDICAL via our shallow wells program. We still provide money for supplies and care to hospitals in Malawi, but most of our effort is aimed at preventing problems through clean water.
Our MISSION has not really changed; we still are following Christ's call to serve HIS people. |
